The Czech Republic has ranked as the tenth safest country in the world on the 2019 Global Peace Index (GPI).

The country’s strongest points were its lack of violent crime, difficulty of accessing weapons and the low impact of terrorism.

On the other hand, less positive points were its involvement in foreign conflicts, ratio of the number of prisoners per capita, and the assessment of security forces and the police.

Even though the average level of global peacefulness improved for the first time in five years, the Czech Republic’s position actually dropped slightly – however still retained one of the top scores. In addition to being the tenth safest worldwide, it also ranked as sixth safest in Europe.

Iceland, New Zealand, Austria, Portugal and Denmark ranked in the top 5 of the index, and Europe remained the most peaceful region in the world, just like every other year recorded by the GPI.

The Global Peace Index evaluates its 163 countries ranked by 23 qualitative and quantitative peace indicators, including safety and security, militarization, and ongoing conflict.
